***Anyone who installs, repairs, or maintains commercial, transport, or industrial refrigeration equipment in North Carolina must either be licensed or be supervised by someone who is licensed. You must have a Commercial Refrigeration License or a Transport Refrigeration License. This is done through the State Board of Refrigeration Examiners:

This is a four-part examination that includes extensive calculations on Part D. You will not pass this exam if you cannot work these mathematical problems.

Part A: 15 questions on Law and Code

Part B: 40 questions on Equipment, Theory, and Electrical (35Q for Transport)

Part C: 20 questions on Electrical and Mechanical Code (25Q for Transport)

Part D: 25 questions on Plan Specifications and Estimating (not required for Transport)
