Virginia

IMPORTANT: The State of Virginia is now requiring licenses for ALL contractors. This is in addition to the mandatory 8-hour pre-license class. That means that you MUST pass two examinations before you will be allowed to do any work in this state. We can help! NACA’s American Educational Services division is an authorized provider for the State of Virginia for the required 8-hour pre-licensing class. Whether you had a license and let it lapse or are applying for a new license, you must take this mandated class. It covers all the information that will be on your three-part Business Law exam. We offer small classes several times a month so check with our office for specific dates and times: 336-540-0149.

The following is a list of the required contractor licenses. There are 27 NEW licenses for contractors. According to the scope of your work, you must have at least one of these licenses. We have heard from many contractors who have been shut down while on a job site  for not having the proper license. The board is checking construction sites and projects throughout Virginia.

The tests are given by a private testing company who make money every time a participant takes (or fails and has to re-take) a test. Therefore, these exams are tough. They are comprised of questions taken from many different references. For example, the Virginia Building License exam has 80 questions on excavation, ventilation, masonry, printreading, swimming pools, construction debris disposal procedure and more. These questions come from 22 different references. The Virginia Highway License exam has 70 questions on erosion, welding, backflow, erection, and more. They come from 24 different references. The Virginia Refrigeration License exam has 50 questions on refrigerants, piping, inspections, refrigeration systems, and more.

For more information on any of these exams and to obtain a Candidate Information Bulletin detailing the scope of work permitted by each license, contact PSI at www.psiexams.com or call 800-733-9267.

We have reference books, home study courses, and exam prep classes. We have been in business since 1985 and know more about licensing tests and procedures than any other company. We’re here to help! Call our office to get more information on your exam prep options at 336-540-0149.
